Jacobson secures $15,000 for Meals on Wheels!

Newburgh, N.Y. – Assembly Member Jonathan Jacobson (D-104) secured $15,000 in funding for Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh, a nonprofit organization that has served Newburgh residents for more than 50 years.

“Meals on Wheels serves everybody who needs it, no matter their income,” Jacobson said during a recent funding announcement. “It also brings an important part of the day to so many people, because they can see and talk to someone. A lot of the people served by Meals on Wheels live alone.”

Carole McDermott, Board President for Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh, agreed, calling the service “a meal plus a friendly visit” and said it was needed more than ever this year.

In addition to McDermott, Jacobson was also joined for the announcement by Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh Executive Director Jennifer Verdin, Board Treasurer Thomas Rockafellow, and Board Members Sheila Lease and Robin Bello.

Jacobson also praised the volunteers who make the program possible, saying, “It takes so much dedication from the volunteers to prepare and deliver meals every day.”

Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh volunteers donate thousands of hours each year to help deliver hot, nourishing meals to people who are elderly, ill, or disabled and cannot prepare meals for themselves. The organization has served more than a half-million meals throughout the Newburgh area since it was founded in 1972.

“This funding will keep the wheel rolling,” Mc Dermott said.
