2025 TAKE A SWING AT HUNGER RAises $22,000 for Meals on wheels!
On a perfect Monday morning, July 21, 2025, the fifth annual "Take a Swing at Hunger Golf Classic" teed off at the renowned Powelton Club, to benefit Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh. The air buzzed with excitement as twenty-one teams, featuring local businesses, golf enthusiasts, and community members, played a four-person scramble.
After the tournament, golfers and guests gathered for the awards ceremony and dinner banquet. The celebration featured a lively silent auction with sports tickets, golf packages, and sports collectibles, as well as terrific prize raffles and a 50/50 drawing. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, camaraderie, and a shared sense of accomplishment.
Board President Carole McDermott welcomed all and spoke about Meals on Wheels' history and mission. At the conclusion of the festivities, Joe Dirago, Tournament Director, proudly announced that the event had raised $22,000 for Meals on Wheels, surpassing all expectations! He acknowledged the sponsors and golfers, with special recognition for Giordano Industrial and the Kaplan Family Foundation as Platinum “Ace” Sponsors.

Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh, Inc. is hosting the “2025 Take a Swing at Hunger Golf Classic”charity tournament on Monday, July 21, 2025 at The Powelton Club, Newburgh, NY. Our 2024 event was a huge success with 89 golfers. We are planning another great golf tournament and event for this year and our goal is to raise $20,000 to support our program!
We are asking for your assistance and support to maintain our mission and help our cause. Playing in the golf tournament, any donation to it, be it a financial sponsorship, or services/goods for our silent auction, will be greatly appreciated. On July 22, 2024, Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh, Inc. hosted the “2024 Take a Swing at Hunger Golf Classic”charity tournament at The Powelton Club, Newburgh, NY. With the generous support of our Sponsors and 89 golfers, we raised over $19,000 to help feed our neediest clients. 89 golfers participated in the event and had a great day of golf, food and fun! Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh hosted the “2023 Take a Swing at Hunger Golf Classic”charity tournament on Monday, July 24, 2023 at The Powelton Club, Newburgh, NY. Our event was a huge success raising $22,000 to help feed our neediest clients. 88 golfers participated in the event and had a great day of golf, food and fun!
